HALF-ELVES

How do Half-elves even exist?  This is a very, very good question.  In theory, they shouldn’t.  The cross-breeding of the two species should not even be possible.  Everyone agrees to that.  In fact, even breeding between half-elves and either elves, humans, or even other half-elves is highly improbable.  In fact, it is extremely common for brothels in Alea, Net’Alea, or any human nation to contain several half-elves because of the extreme difficulty associated with getting a Half-elf pregnant.  Yet, it still happens.  To many people, this only demonstrates just how difficult it is to remain monogamous.

Personality: What is notable is the extreme resilience of the half-elves themselves.  Though they have no Ncxon to call home, are generally spurned by everyone, and can not reliably reproduce, they still continue to muddle through life.  They form Clans around the same principles that Aleans have Houses and Net’Aleans have Families.  With the growing numbers of half-elves and their continual acquisition of more infrastructure jobs, more than one scholar has wondered what the ramifications of a half-elf strike would be.  Whatever the future may hold, the present is quite dark.

Physical Description:  Half-elves are easy to pick out close-up, but difficult to pick out in a crowd.  Facial and general body structure-wise, there is little difference between elves and humans, thus half-elves look much like the others.  What makes it easy to spot a half-elf is the startling large and pointy ears of the elves remain present, but in a diminutive form.

Biology: Half-elves seem to pick up some of the resilient physical attributes of their elven parent.  It is notable that the lineage of the elven parent plays a significant role in what attributes are passed on.  Commonly, children of an Alean elf showed improved vision, physical endurance, and mental stability.  Children of a Net’Alean elf tend to show improved physical endurance, physical dexterity, and physical strength.

Relations: The mixed heritage and what it ‘means’, has led both humans and elves to treat half-elves as social pariahs.  Often, half-elves become the ‘untouchable’ class of whatever Ncxon they belong to.  Aleans do not suffer the mere existence of half-elves in their Ncxon and have a death sentence placed on any half-elves found within its borders.  Parents of half-elves are often questioned very intently with at least one member failing to return.

Names: Half-Elves typically take the last name of one of their parents and often slightly alter it.  This is most common with Elven names, since full-blooded Elves will take blood oaths to kill any Half-Elf bearing their family name.  First names will often be traditional names gifted by one of their parents from their home Ncxon.
