ELVES

A fantasy scene featuring a young woman seated on a royal blue and gold chair, with blonde hair and a red outfit, and a young man standing behind her with elf-like ears in a black and red outfit.

Personality: Elves in the Ruby Dragon are not the fair skinned, tree-loving doves of other worlds.   Elves build majestic fortifications out of concrete and steel.  Elves are traditionally more ordered, perhaps even militaristic, then even the humans.  Certainly, a three thousand year old society sees the advantage of building something to be beautiful and enduring, which is why they do so with materials that will last for thousands of years.

Elves also place great value in bloodlines.  Many of the bloodlines have strengthened various traits over the centuries.  As time has passed, these bloodlines have evolved into noble lineages.  In Alea, the noble lineages are called Houses.  In Net’Alea, a noble lineage is called a Family.

Physical Description: In general, Elves are taller than their human counterparts and tend to demonstrate European appearances (exempting the Iberian Peninsula). Alea has a higher rate of individuals with blonde hair, red hair, green eyes, and blue eyes.  Net’Alea trends more toward the darker colors, but still sports entire lineages of typically Alea genes.

Biology: Elves are physically more impressive than their counterparts in the Konsil Ncxons.  One of these ‘improvements’ manifests in high, pointed ears that stretch nearly to the top of the elf’s head, offering hearing that is twice as sensitive as a normal human.  A natural consequence of the improved hearing is the Elven tendency to craft music that focuses on soft and subtle sounds in layers, instead of loud, boisterous noise.

Elven vision is equally sensitive, allowing them the ability to see with greater clarity objects both near and far.  Many elven tapestries are seen by humans as being very plain or bland; whereas, the average elf will notice the thin shimmering threads that are interwoven within the greater design.

Elves are a hardy race that resists fatigue with ease, able to survive physical beatings that would overcome other races, and typically live twice as long as a human.  An interesting side-effect of their extended life expectancy is that they seem to take nearly twice as long to mature.

Relations: Virtually all elves display a high level of arrogance when dealing with the other races.  This arrogance is for one of two reasons, sometimes both: Elves are stronger, faster, smarter, and have better hearing than any other race in the Konsil Ncxons AND those races that they aren’t physically superior to, are tainted by the Dark One (orks, goblins, trolls, etc).  Unfortunately, it seems the reasons for their arrogance are based in fact.

Elven Names:

Over the last thousand years, Elven names have begun to differentiate, with certain names showing up more commonly in either Alea or Net’Alea.  However, Alean names can be found in Net’Alea and Net’Alean names can be found in Alea, with no prejudice shown.

Of special note are the following letter pronunciations: A sounds like ah, E sounds like Eh, I sounds like Ee, Y sounds like I, X sounds like Sh, and C sounds like Aye.
