Originally, the large island of Montisangi lay within the domains of Oleria but was generally seen as an outreach colony of only minor interest. During the Continental Congress that established the laws and policies of the Konsil Ncxons, it was determined that a peace keeping organization with international capabilities would need to be formed to prevent member nations from engaging in aggressive behavior toward each other. It was felt that this organization would need a large area to support itself and be independent of other nations. The undeveloped island of Montisangi seemed a perfect choice and was annexed for this purpose. Over a thousand years later, the organization known as the 'Konsil Nyts' has flourished to fill the island. Vast deposits of metal ores were discovered and the most of the arable lands have been terraformed into productive fields for supporting the organization. Montisangi is not to be confused with a typical nation state, it is and always will be a military organization.
Montisangi is one of the smallest ‘Nation’ in the Konsil with only sixty seven thousand square miles of territory. For an island, this is still quite large. This island would be almost as long as Great Britain and fifty percent larger than Cuba. Most of Montisangi’s resources are geared to supporting the Konsil Nyts. If the local government was not constrained by their ‘mission’, the vast wealth in gems and metals could have made the nation one of the wealthiest in the Konsil Ncxons. The climate and soil allows for a diversity of fruits, vegetables, and some excellent wines.
The Konsil Nyts are separated into Nine Branches with the most senior officers from each branch serving on the Hy Konsil. Each senior officer is referred to as a Hy Marxal and is often designated by their branch headquarters instead of their name. The senior officer for Supply would be referred to as High Marxal Kuartermcn. The most senior officer is referred to as the Lord Marxal. The current Lord Marxal is Lord Marxal Suloman Makellon. Although there is no throne, the traditional seat for the Lord Marxal in the audience chamber is often referred to as the Iron Throne. The traditional banner for Montisangi is The Shield of the Konsil. The Field is white with a Quartered Shield. A Lion Rampant is placed in the Top, Right and Bottom, Left Quarters. A Panther Rampant is placed in the Top, Left and Bottom, Right Quarters. The Quarters with the Lion are Brown. Two Gold Stars are positioned next to each rampant figure. Below the Quartered Shield is a Banner of Green. Upon the Banner are the words: Nikkoli, Lijjoli.
Additionally guidance is provided by the Konsil of Xapters, a group comprised of the Xaptermasters or their liaison from each of the Xapterhouses distributed throughout the Konsil Ncxons. The Xapterhouses are small military garrisons and embassies placed at regular intervals in the member Ncxons. An outpost, often located within two days ride of each other, is led by a Kommandante and a Xapter House (usually limited to one per regional state) is led by a Rear Marxall. Membership in the Konsil Nyts is comprised primarily of volunteers from the Ncxons of Alea, Net'Alea, Alavyar, and Oleria. It is rare that a Noni or Rinikian will volunteer, but has occurred in the past. The economy of Montisangi is primarily supported by tithes from the other Konsil Ncxons, though the leadership has developed a system in which the island could become self-sufficient if it ever came under siege. The records of the Konsil Nyts list a marshallable force of over half a million troops on the island, another million in training, close to a million troops dispersed throughout the Konsil Ncxons, and approximately 2.5 million individuals listed as relatives of troops (spouses and children) or support. The official language of Montisangi and the Konsil Nyts is Komen, but all Nyts receive instruction in Alean. Many Konsil Nyts continue their education and learn Minosian, Ork, or Rinikian.
All members of the Konsil Nyts begin as Recruits. Titles are awarded based on performance evaluations and the achievement of a pre-requisite Qualification level. Qualification levels are determined solely by the successful completion of Branch/Field appropriate courses. Courses may only be attempted when a course fee is paid. The fee may be paid through saved wages, bonuses, scholarships (higher ranks are allowed to award annual scholarships in order to promote progression of the best, not just the children of nobles), and naturally ... one's own finances (as in the case of children of nobles). Payment guarantees only an opportunity to study the subject, not successful completion. An individual may jump titles if they excel at the Qualification exams and courses. An individual may be permanently limited by their inability to complete those same examinations, hitting the highest Title available at their Qualification.
Members who successfully complete the rank of Recruit and are inducted into the Order have the emblem of Private branded on their left hand. As they progress in ranks, the appropriate changes to the brand are made. This allows the Konsil Nyts to display proof of their authority. A Konsil Nyt that elects to leave service under positive circumstances (honorable discharge), will have a sword passing through the shield from top to bottom added to the tattoo. A Konsil Nyt that leaves service under negative circumstances (dishonorable discharge), will have a skull tattooed over the middle of the shield.
