Hogwart’s Rebuilt

Development Aspects

This was a response to a prompt and I will continue to format it when it is not 3 am in the morning and my mouse is acting up.

It is now 8 am and I keep saying, “just one more thing.”

I also apologize for various issues. I need a specialized mouse and this one has been misbehaving for days while I work on this. I need a new one, but I need money and I really want to finish this (although I seem fine with skipping Pre/Cos, Course Descriptions, and Course Competencies. We will see how long that lasts).

So, there was a prompt about how I would rebuild Hogwarts. I turned Hogwarts into a three house Tri-Tower (with the Central Wing being named after Godwin. Then, I started mocking out the curriculum. I then added grounding in the GEARS TTRPG to make sure they made sense (and was playable). Then, I used my years writing curriculum to begin mocking out the general course listings. I expanded it to include Contact/Credit Hours. I tried to general balance the course load and match it to what is seen in Harry Potter. I had to determine the new capacity. Then, I felt the need to work out program offerings per year. Next, I developed faculty work loads and resulting student schedules. I had to make sure that teachers could TEACH the schedules (not be in two places at the same time) and students could use the schedules (attend all necessary courses). Since we had some electives, schedules needed to have faculty available to teach the electives while students could attend with the courses being offered at different times. I produced this in a spreadsheet in the same way I used to for a college I worked at for 10 years. I currently have a baseline, but for every 3 additional faculty you can offer 4 additional electives each semester, but at the cost of turning the Advanced Arcane classes into small group activities. At present, you generally have 60 students taking 1 of 4 elective offerings each of 4 semesters. The 16 total offered courses are selected from a pool of 40 courses.

Narrative Aspects

Along the way, I think I found what Joanne was been looking for. It is hard to leave your baby, one yo have nurtured for so long, even when people diss you. It is also hard to find a story to further the world when you closed the story without it feeling like just a repeat. Yet, people want a repeat … that is original. I think I found that for Joanne.

A question never truly answered in Harry Potter is: How did Tom Riddle learn to make Horcruxes? We know how he learned of them. We learned how he became aware of an ingredient, but not the actual process. If death/killing is all that was needed, there would be lots of Death Eater Horcruxes. What was the actual process and who taught him?

Make THAT guy the new big baddie. Have the villain being a horcrux returning to power, but smarter, mor cunning. His death was accidental. His storage was unplanned. Make him around 30 to 40 years old, but from the 1500s or so. He isn’t using brute force and fear, but slowly turning everyone against each other and thinking getting his victims to think that “by any means necessary” is what is called for.

Meanwhile, we watch 3 or 6 new Hogwarts students progressing. This is a world years after the events of Harry Potter. Maybe it is more modern and 30 plus years have passed. Maybe Potter’s grandson is now attending. There are only three houses, 1 for each major character. The characters now meet in reading nooks and sitting rooms. Classes are ~15 students with roughly 5 from each house. Gryffindor is for the faculty/staff, of which there are about 21. The central ring has room for 15 and the house dean + one other have rooms at the entrance to each house’s living area.

Riddle’s idea of 7 Horcruxes should have come from this villain. Perhaps they were Ravenclaw. Each year should feel like different genre. Maybe attempts to destroy these horcruxes each go into a different era preferred by the horcrux. Maybe: Frontier adventure, Medieval Fantasy, Industrial Age Mystery, 1960s Suspense, 1920s Horror, 1990s Sci-fi, 2000s dystopian YA, and medieval Fairy Tale Romance (not as awesome as Disney tells us).

This is a combination of curriculum development, realities for a functional institution, and connections using the GEARS TTRPG with the possibility of it being a sourcebook/campaign book

Wands

Enchantment Flaw: Chooses the Owner (6)

Rules: When this Flaw is first acquired, rate the eight Attributes from highest (most preferred) to lowest (least preferred) and append that list to this Flaw as a trait.

Any character attempting to use an Ability conferred by this Object, must rate their eight Attributes from highest to lowest and show the list to the GM.  If this list does not match, the effective Ranks of the Ability are reduced by the Ranks possessed in this Flaw.  If this effect reduces the Effective Ranks below one, the Ability is unusable and treated as non-existent

Note: If two Attributes are tied for preference, the player may determine which is dominant.  If the player possesses more than two numbers that are tied, the GM may determine dominance.

Limitations: Cannot be combined with the Enchantment Flaw - Bound to the Soul.  This Flaw cannot possess more Ranks in this Flaw than any Enchantment Ability possessed by target Object.
